In twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi 16% of the students have taken their TCs. They have taken TC under RTI. Kattar Muslim Hijab girl students, who are distraught after the high court verdict have taken TCs from the government institutions and have approached private institutions to continue their education. Out of 900 Muslim girls students, 145 (16%) have taken TCs. Out of the 145 students who have taken TCs, 34% were studying in government colleges while 16% were enrolled in aided colleges.
Ghausiya, student of university college Mangaluru said that the education minister B C Nagesh is the reason for the Muslim girl students to take the TCs.
The students who took TCs accused minister B C Nagesh and said, “As we are not allowed to wear Hijab, we have taken TCs from the college. Minister Nagesh did not allow us to get education as per our constitution. He made a small piece of cloth a big issue.”
The government will suffer because of the stand taken by the Muslim girl students. The government colleges will get closed as more than 30% Muslim girl students have left government colleges over the hijab issue. The students say that this will be a burning issue for the whole state.
