Bangalore: Four Passport Centres in State Including Mangalore Upgraded

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Apr 30: The union government has upgraded all the 77 Passport Seva Kendras (service centres) opened in the country on an experimental basis during May last,  to enable people to get passport-related services fast, into permanent offices. Addressing a press conference here on Friday April 29, regional transport officer, Dr K J Srinivas informed that the four passport service centres presently functioning in the state i.e., Bangalore (two centres), Hubli and Mangalore, will provide passport services on a full scale henceforth.

“There has been an 88 percent jump in the number of passport applications received during the 11 months since these centres became operational. More passport service centres are likely to be opened in the city, because of pressure of applications. We expect to secure permission for the same in the next phase,” he stated.

Srinivas said that the department has been making all out efforts for the fast disposal of applications, in spite of problems like staff shortage encountered by the department. He said that the department has introduced measures like added working hours and working on Saturdays, for serving the needy, revealing that 32,000 passport applications had been disposed off after these centres were opened in the state.  He noted that lot of time gets wasted at the stage of scrutiny of applications, particularly in the police department, as the police personnel are forced to attend to the additional duty of verifying the addresses of passport applicants.

He added that the process of accepting applications through private agencies has been stopped, as it is observed that fake documents were enclosed to several applications received through Bangalore One centres and private agencies. He said that henceforth, people want to get passport, need to apply through the internet.

I had applied for renewal of my children's passport a year ago in Bangalore. My experiences were as under:

    (1) There is no system of properly verifying the documents submitted. In case any paper is missing they should point it out there and then and should not accept the papers. Once accepted they should act upon it. Because of this it took 3 months time for me to get my children's passport.

    (2) Passport centres' 2-3 mistakes, eg wrong date of birth, spelling mistakes, ECNR stamp etc., were pointed out online many times, but when the passports were issued, those mistakes were not corrected.

    (3) Even after submitting document proof of my children (college certificates) and inspite of the fact that their existing passports had ECNR stamp, finally when new passports were issued, Emmigration Clearance Required stamp was endorsed, causing me repetitive visits to the Passport office to change that.

    (4) We cannot see any officer in case we have any query. The Security will not allow you to enter the building.

    (5) Hundreds of people are made to wait outside the building in hot sun, for hours to gether.

    (6) Documents accept counter is like a film ticket issuing counter, that too one only.

    (7) No cafetaria .... No proper toilet facility.

Technolgy is very much in place, but the administration, implementation and infrastructure are missing. Authorities concerned.. please look into these.

Some time back I had gone to Marthahalli Passport office.I was completely disappointed to see the long Queue  of people including children, ladies & senior citizens waiting outside the building in hot sun for hours together. It is a shame to see such sorry condition of people standing outside.I fail to understand why the Authorities concerned do not appoint additional staff to clear the load,& ease the condition of the people. It clearly indicate that our Senior authorities are not at all bothered to organise the situation to the satisfaction of all concerned

Passport centres in state upgrading the systems is good idea, but at the same time counter staff need more trained and experiences to respond to their customers. This is a matter of shame that passport office one facing problems with the services.

Good news. Good News. Government is trying its best to upgrade the system. Of-course, it will take some time but finally, when we get, it will be more than our expectation. Example: our Mangalore Airport. Young officers got many new ideas. Let us hope for the best from the younger genereation.

I had recently done my passport in Mlore passport seva kendra. The service is the best. You have to be there in person. No hassels, clean central A/C environment, courteous staff, No waiting, no touts around & NO BRIBE. If you have all your documents in place the avg time to submit the application will be just 45 min. The whole project is manned by TATA consultancy with just few passport officers around. Thats the power of outsourcing!!! All appointment should be taken tru the website & the only problem is its very difficult to get an normal appointment. In tatkal its "fastest finger first" on the net.
