Udupi, Oct 24:  Poornaprajna Amateur Astronomers' Club, (PAAC) has organized a program to make the public view  solar eclipse. Partial solar Eclipse is happening on October 25, between 5pm to 6pm.  The program will be held in Malpe beach.

Poornaprajna Amateur Astronomers’ Club through hundreds of eclipse viewing goggles have been  made  accessible for the general public to view the eclipse. The eclipse must not be viewed through the naked eye. Therefore, to make the people of Udupi appreciate the beauty of the solar eclipse, the club has joined hands with Malpe Development Committee to make the arrangements.

In the vast void of space, among the many beautiful astronomical events that occur, the celestial alignment of the Solar Eclipse is one of the most beautiful to see and know about. About 150 million kilometers away from us, the Sun is blocked by a small orbit that is orbiting us at just 3,84,000 kilometers, yet the Moon matches the Sun in size.

During the evening hours as the Sun appears to head towards the vast ocean at the horizon, shedding all its colors, except for red. This setting sun will have a partial solar eclipse.

Challenged by his equal, the Moon, the two celestial objects fight for space in the sky, colliding, obstructing each other causing the eclipse. The red Sun will therefore be eclipsed by the New Moon causing a partial solar eclipse.

What fascinates amateur astronomers is that the amount of eclipse that will occur on Tuesday October 25, is almost equal to the amount of eclipse that occurs on the Moon on November 8, next month.
