Udupi: Notorious night burglar arrested, valuables worth Rs 7 lacs recovered

Udupi, Dec 20: Following several cases of thefts registered at Brahmavar and Kota police station limits at nights , a police team under the leadership of Anantapadmanabha, CPI Brahmavar was formed under the direction of SP Akshay M H. The police team comprising Brahmavar station PSI Muktabai, staff Venkatramana Devadiga, Pravin Shettigar and Mohammed Ajmal had collected details of the night burglars and those who were released from jail and kept a watch on their movements.

The team intercepted a Honda Matrix scooter being driven by old theft accused Vijay Bhasker Shetty, a resident of Kadoor village and found with him the tools used for thefts. Investigations undertaken after taking him into custody have revealed that he was involved in thefts breaking the old house door of Sadashiva Mahabaleshwara Rao, Kadoor village and stolen chillies worth Rs 1,40,000 between March and April 2022. He has also stolen a gas cylinder from Indane company after breaking the door of Antayya Shetty Memorial Government Higher Primary School in July 2022.

He had broken open the door of the house of Vani Bhandary of Yadthadi village in July 2022 and stolen jewellery worth Rs 5,19,000.

He had also conducted a theft at the house of Sujata Shetty, in front of Billadi school, Kota in November 2022.

He is also said to be involved in the theft in the house of Bhasker Shetty, Aroor village in November 2022. Gold jewellery worth Rs 31,000, silver ornaments, saree and cash of Rs 5,000 were stolen from there.

Four cases of theft in Brahmavar police station limits and one in Kota police station limits were cracked with this arrest.

He has two theft cases pending at Puttur police station, four cases in Mangaluru Bunder police station, one case at N R Pura police station, Chikkamagaluru, one case at Harihar police station, one case at Agumbe police station, two cases at Tunga Nagar police station and one case at Brahmavar police station. He has been absconding without appearing in the court in most of the cases and a non-bailable warrant was issued for his arrest.

A Honda Matrix scooter worth Rs 30,000, jewellery worth Rs 4,64,700, silver ornaments worth Rs 2,080, saree worth Rs 9,000, Rs 84,000 cash obtained from the sale of chillies and a gas cylinder worth Rs 2,800 have been recovered from him.
