Kasargod: 19-year-old drugged, gang-raped - Three accused arrested

Kasargod, Dec 21: The police have arrested three accused in connection to the case where a 19-year-old girl was drugged and gang raped under Vidyanagar police station limits.

The arrested are identified as Shainish Kumar (30) from Madhoor Patla, Mokshit Shetty (43) from Uppala Mangalpadi and Prashanth (27) from Uliathadka. The police team under the leadership of inspector P Chandrika, Kasargod women’s police station arrested the trio. A Kanhangad based woman who acted as an intermediary was also taken into custody.

The victim, belonging to a poor family was lured and given a drink laced with a narcotic substance before the gang rape.

As per investigations, a young man in the neighbourhood had pretended to be in love with the girl, promised to marry her, escorted her to several places and raped her. He also offered the girl to other men through the intermediary woman after which she was gang-raped.

She was raped in lodges at Kasargod, Mangaluru, Cherkala, Trissur etc. The girl who was repeatedly raped, faced mental and health issues. The shocking story came to light during the counselling at the hospital where she was admitted.

Police personnel obtained details from the girl and conducted investigation. More men are involved in the crime, revealed the probe. The police are questioning the woman in this connection.
