At around 6.30 pm, when Pavitra was having bath, she heard the sound of a stone falling on the tile of the house. Later, another stone was thrown on the window pane. When Pavitra came out after finishing off her bath, she did not find anyone. As she was going to close the bathroom door, two strangers with their face covered with mask, pulled Pavitra and tied her to the arecanut tree pole on the verandah of the house and assaulted her. They snatched her Kariyamani from her neck. The strangers entered the house and took Rs 4,000 cash kept on the table and a gunny bag full of arecanut. The robbers ransacked the cupboard of the house also.

No one knew that Pavitra was tied to the pole. Around 7 pm, her neighbours watched and released her. BJP leader Ganesh Rai visited the spot and informed the police.

Bantwal rural SI Harish visited the house. Finger print experts and canine squad will arrive for further inspection on Friday.
