Mangaluru: MLA Bharath Shetty’s poser to minister, reply in session scripted - Bawa

Mangaluru, Dec 23: Former MLA Mohiuddin Bawa has alleged that the questions posed by MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty regarding the Surathkal market and the minister Byrathi Nagaraj’s reply were both scripted at the Belagavi session of legislature.

Addressing media persons here on Thursday, December 23, Bawa said both of them had decided on the question and the answer before coming to the session at Belagavi.

Surathkal market faced no budgetary constraint as claimed by the minister, Bawa said but mentioned the Rs 14 crore project had come up. During the first phase Rs 61 crore was released but after the BJP came to power work was stopped by MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty, Bawa charged. It was Shetty’s responsibility to finish the work on Surathkal market which has remained incomplete, he added.

Bawa charged that MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty had remained silent for four years but was raising the issue about the Surathkal market now when the state is just three-four months away from facing another election to the Legislative Assembly.

“He won’t be MLA after 3-4 months, BJP will also not be in office. The minister has claimed that Rs 80 crore had been sanctioned for the work. What is the use of sending a proposal for fund release now? Let the work begin now. Work remained incomplete because there was no release of fund and then the contractor did not pay the commission,” Bawa alleged.

“The sanctioned amount of Rs 60 crore fund has now touched Rs 80 crore, so there is a difference of Rs 20 crore. The MLA is answerable. Just because he posed a question to the minister during the ongoing legislature session, people won’t believe him,” he charged.

“We will raise our voice against MLA Bharath Shetty. On December 31 we will go on a protest march to bring this to the notice of the public,” Bawa said.

During the session Minister Bairathi Nagaraj has told that he has visited the Surathkal market to review it. When we look into minister’s travel plan we will come to know that how many times he has visited Mangaluru and Surathkal market.
