Mangaluru: Gadinada Ratna awardees Harish Sherigar, wife Sharmila felicitated

Mangaluru, Dec 25: Renowned neurosurgeon Dr K V Devadiga said businessman Harish Sherigar had become famous in India and overseas by engaging himself in various disciplines and had become a role model for his philanthropic activities.

He was speaking after inaugurating a  function held here at the Mangaluru Mannaguddada Devadiga Samaja Bhavana on Saturday, December 24 organised by Mangaluru women's wing of the Karnataka Devadigara Sangha and Yuva Sanghatane to  felicitate Harish Sherigar and wife Sharmila Harish Sherigar with the Gadinada Ratna Award.

Dr Devadiga said Sherigar should be bestowed with the Padmashri award in the coming days.

 

World Devadiga Federation president Dharmapal U Devadiga launched the website of the Mangaluru's Karnataka State Devadiga Sangha.

Speaking on the occasion, Devadiga said Sherigar has all the leadership qualities and has won the hearts of the people in the society. He said Sherigar had worked hard to rise up to this level and in contributing to various sectors.

World Devadiga Federation general secretary H Mohandas said Sherigar should be bestowed with the Karnataka Rajyotsava award which was seconded by Devadiga Sangha Bengaluru president Chandrashekar.

Later, Harish Sherigar and his wife Sharmila Harish Sherigar were felicitated in all grandeur  by the Mangaluru central committee of the Karnataka Devadiga Sangha, Woman and Youth Organisation. Sangha office-bearers from Karkala, Udupi, Surathkal, Nandapura also part in the function and felicitated the Sherigars.

Speaking on the occasion, Harish Sherigar said it was possible for him to achieve whatever he could due to the blessings from his parents and the cooperation extended to him by his wife. He said it is possible for anyone to achieve success through hard work. "It is important to be committed to work and not chase awards or recognition. People should not be cowed down by the problems," he said.

Karnataka State Devadiga Sangha Mangaluru president K Sridhar Moily presided over the function.

Mumbai Devadiga Sangha president Narayana Devadiga, Karnataka State Devadiga Sangha Mangaluru vice-president Veni Maroli, former president Vaman Maroli, Dinesh Devadiga Kadri, Dr Devaraj K, Barakur Sri Eknatheswari Temple chairman Annaiah Sherigar, World Devadiga Federation general secretary H Mohandas, Bengaluru Devadiga Sangha president Chandrashekar, Udupi Sangha president Ganesh Devadiga, Karkala Sangha president Kusumanjali, Mumbai Sangha president K V Devadiga, retired principal of Mangaluru Polytechnic College Babu Devadiga Amblamogaru, Sangha general secretary Sudhakar Moily, Jayanand Devadiga and Shekar Moily of Dubai Devadiga Sangha among others were also present.

The orchestra programme by Thunder Kids team and the cultural programmes presented by women were entertaining. Harish Sherigar sang the popular song Singara Siriye from the film Kantara on the occasion.

Samya Devadiga and Kavya Devadiga put up the inaugural dance performance. Aishwarya Devadiga, Chiranth and members of the woman and the youth organisation gave some dance performances. Lahari rendered the invocation.

Sridhar Moily welcomed and Srinivasa Devadiga read out the felicitation letter. Yashwitha Devadiga compered and Veni Maroli proposed the vote of thanks.
