Mangaluru, Jan 13: The much-awaited annual sports day “Espectro – 2022-23” of the Presidency School was held on Thursday, January 12 with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere.
The programme began with the school principal Shaila Saldanha welcoming the esteemed gathering and emphasised on the importance of sports in a child's life.
The chief guest, Dr. Jayaprakash Director - physical education, Shree Gokarantheshwara College, Mangaluru took the salute of the impressive march past of the students, coupled with some stirring marching music by the band.
The meet was declared open by the chief guest by letting the balloons along with the mascot and performing the traditional Chande Vadya Shabari group.
The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the oath being administered by the Sports captain Ashmith Shetty. The torch relay was done by sports performers at the state, national & international level in sports – Dashiel Amanda Concessao, Arman Mohammed Asif, Mohammed Faraz Ali, Vritika Bhaskar, Vrishabh Bhaskar, Preeth Kulal, Tushar P Shetty, Harsh U Bhandary, Pranav Shetty, Anoushka Rao, Deekshith, Aleena Lia Patrao and Sahrish Zainab.
Devansh Jain (96.2%) of Grade 12 Commerce, Arjun Suresh (89.2%) of Grade 12 Science and Saba Mehak (97.4%) of Grade 10, the toppers of CBSE Board Examination 2021-22, were honoured with a token of appreciation for their academic achievements.
An energizing equestrian display set the tone for the rest of the event. The displays presented by the students mesmerised the audience with their energetic performances.
Once the races began, the air was filled with cheering and tons of encouragement for the young athletes.
Students of classes 5 to 12 competed in events including 200 mts,100 mts & 75 mts including 4x100 mts relay.
At the end of the day, students departed with a clear smile on their faces. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish.
The principal of this esteemed institution, Shaila Saldanha thanked all the teachers for their cooperation and support and advised children to keep up their sportsman spirit.
