Bantwal: House gutted in fire, lacs worth household items gutted

Bantwal, Jan 19: A house caught fire leading to the explosion of a LPG cylinder at Mani. The owner of the house has suffered losses in lacs.

The unfortunate incident took place at a house owned by Rama Ashok Poojary at Janata Colony near Kapikad, Mani.

Fire broke out after Rama’s elderly mother went away locking the house. Locals tried to douse the fire and alerted the fire service department. Meanwhile, a LPG cylinder exploded. Locals who were trying to douse the fire, had a narrow escape. A person named Kunhi suffered injuries.

Fire brigades that arrived from Puttur and Bantwal tried to douse the fire. Puttur fire service ASI Shanker and Puttur and Bantwal staff under the leadership of District fire service officer Bharath Kumar conducted the operation.

The mishap occurred soon after the elderly lady went away after locking the house door. One LPG cylinder out of two cylinders at the house exploded.

Besides electric gadgets, cupboards, clothes, documents and all the other items were destroyed in the fire. The house was also gutted. The real cause of the fire is not yet known. Vittal police station personnel visited the spot and undertook investigation.
