Doha: MCC Qatar to organize 'Mangalorean Day' inter-varado sports event

Doha, Feb 9: Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC), Qatar in its endeavour to bring all Mangalureans come together as a family as per our club theme 'Yeya Ek Kutamb Bhandhya' has organized a full day 'Mangalorean Day', an inter-varado sports event on Friday, February 10 from 8.30 am onwards at Al Arabia Sports Club – Indoor Stadium, Doha Qatar.

This Mangalorean Sports Day is organized with an intention to provide an opportunity to all Mangalureans from all parishes of both Mangalore and Udupi dioceses to meet and greet, mingle with each other and know our fellow Mangalurean, to enjoy and have fun in the best weather conditions and mainly to give them a platform to showcase their various talents in different sports fields. MCC also in recognition of importance of sports and to support Qatar Sports Day to be held on February 14 has planned this event among parishioners of all varados.

In preparation of this Sports Day, MCC Qatar held a successful event to launch the new jerseys and unveiling of trophies on February 4 at Indian Cultural Center Mumbai Hall.

The event started with an introduction to the gathering by emcee Lavita Rodriges and a prayer by past president of MCC Sunil D’Silva. President Naveen D’souza was invited to address the gathering. In his talk he summarized all activities and programs organized by the club for the Mangalorean community in Qatar. He highlighted the importance of sports in promoting a healthy lifestyle and community building. He also spoke about the club's commitment to providing its members with the best possible sporting experience and the new jerseys were a testament to that. He spoke about the importance of sports in promoting unity and healthy competition. He also emphasized the significance of the trophy as a symbol of excellence and the ultimate goal for the participating teams. Winning and loosing is a part of game, but uniting together as teams is more important and our relationship that we build is the winning motto. He explained the expenses for this event and thanked all the team sponsors. At the end he invited not only the participants but also all the Mangalureans present in Qatar for the Mangalurean sports event. He mentioned that there will be a lucky draw and lunch will be served to all.

Mangalorean Day inter-varado sports event promo was played on the projector where the T-shirt colors of each Varado along with their team owner and team captain was displayed.

The trophies were unveiled by president Naveen and the founder Jerald D’Mello, along with the advisors of MCC.

Sports secretary Shameen Lewis was invited to give further details about the sports competition and the rules and regulations. Shameen introduced the names of all the Sports Team’s main sponsors, co-sponsor and team captains.

The eight teams are:

1. Amche Udupi – Team Owner – Rocky Fernandes, Team Captain – Amith Mathias
2. Coastal Warriors – Team Leader – MelroyVaz, Team Captain – Lester Pais
3. United Probhus Doha – Team Owner – Henry D’Souza, Team Captain – Nishan D’Souza
4. Episcopal Warriors – Team Owner – Arnold D’Souza, Team Captain – Della Rego
5. KodialchiTharan – Team Owner – Francis & Cynthia Quadros, Team Captain – Arun D’Silva
6. Konkani Warriors – Team Owner – Alwyn D’Souza, Team Captain – Amith Mathias
7. Champions of Shirva – Team Owner – Jason, Divya Pinto & Family, Team Captain – Dorothy Noronha
8. United Bantwals – Team Owner – Jerald D’Mello, Team Captain – Melwin Pinto

The new jerseys were unveiled by all the team captains/owners with a great applause from the audience. The jerseys were designed keeping in mind the theme colors and the club's emblem was prominently displayed on them. The members were impressed with the design and the quality of the jerseys.

The event was followed by a photo session where the members posed for photographs with the new jerseys. The photos will be used for promotional purposes and to showcase the club's commitment to sports.

In conclusion, the jersey launch event was a huge success and it created a lot of excitement among the members. The club is confident that the new jerseys will add to the sports day experience and enhance the overall atmosphere.

The event was attended by members of the club, local sports enthusiasts, team owners, and team captains.

MCC has invited all Mangalureans in Qatar to make use of this opportunity to come together, cheer and support fellow parishioners and enjoy a fun filled sports day.
