Udupi: Rashtriya Lok Adalat – 42,687 cases get resolved in a single day

Udupi, Feb 12: As per the guidance of Legal Services Authority of Bengaluru,  Rashtriya Lok Adalat was organised at various courts of Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala on Saturday and 42,687 cases were resolved in just one day.

A total of 22 compromisable crime cases, 244 cases related to cheque bounce, seven cases of bank and money recovery, 150 cases of MVC, one case of labour loss compensation, eight cases of MMRD act, four cases of marital discord, 187 cases of civil, 2,587 other criminal cases and 39,477 cases of pre- litigation were resolved.

The total compensation was Rs 20,47,37,959. Transport department had announced a 50% rebate in traffic fines, if paid before February 11. Accordingly, Rs 22 lac was collected on Saturday in the Adalat.

Judiciary department, district Legal Services Authority, taluk Legal Services Committee, Bar Association Udupi, Kundapur, Karkala, police, revenue, mines and geology department, insurance companies, bank, witnesses and other departments cooperated in the Lok Adalat proceedings.

    how is this possible? 42k solved in one day? A simple straight forward case takes minimum 15 years in our local courts.... why should we have such courts if lok adalat can solve in seconds???
