Chikkamagaluru, Feb 14: Co-founder of NSWS (Nicholas Social Welfare Society) Shaun D’Souza is selected for the scholarship of Global Initiative Award given by Bill Clinton Foundation, according to Newsmeter.in.

This is for the first time that a Konkani speaking youth is selected for this coveted award. Shaun’s grandfather late Nicholas D’Souza was the first chairperson of Chikkamagaluru Town Planning. Shaun is the son of Benedict Stevenson D’Souza and Anna Diana D’Souza couple of Chikkamagaluru.

This award is given for exploring effective models for making a positive change and comprises of heads of state and government officials, influential youth advocates, leaders of NGOs and philanthropic organizations and other citizens throughout the world. The Clinton Global Initiative Award supports the projects of such individuals by helping them to get into new partnerships, provide technical support and increase the scale of the model. It also mobilises resources, elevates and identifies works for global challenge solutions.

Shaun is one of the 800 participants all across the globe who is selected to take part in the policy execution of his commitment to action (CTA) on mental health wellbeing for students and youth in rural and semi-urban parts of Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh by 2025. The year-long fellowship is based on policy development and online modules. The project of Shaun will begin on March 31, the day of King’s Global Day of service and will be headed by King’s Alumni Hyderabad and treasurer.

Through policy dialogues and scientific commentaries, Shaun aims to inspire the youth to participate in active political spaces. He hopes his mission of providing free and accessible mental health care and political education to the youth will be the foundation for sustainable development.
