MAHE showing zero tolerance towards drugs cases in Manipal: Udupi SP

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Feb 15: District superintendent of police (SP) Hakay Akshay Machhindra has appreciated the efforts and cooperation of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) in controlling the drug menace in the city.

Speaking to media, the SP said, "We had traced and booked many cases of drug peddling and consumption in and around Manipal. Most of the arrested persons were students. Hence, we requested the MAHE administration to take action against those students. The MAHE authorities have responded positively and suspended two students involved in drug trafficking. I request other college authorities also to co-operate with the district police in the same way when sought. We have been working very consistently in the last six months to control drug trafficking and consumption. Disciplinary action from the college administration is a necessity. The two students will be under suspension till the case is disposed of in the court.

"Everyone should be aware that if anyone gets caught in such criminal activities, they will not be supported by any entity. I thank the MAHE administration for their support. Other educational institutions also should take disciplinary action when their students get caught in such activities. In one case, a student from another state currently studying in Manipal had brought ganja from his own networks through parcels. After a drug-related incident took place in Mangaluru involving students, our ADG law and order Alok Kumar has given much importance for tracking such activities. He has insisted on disciplinary action from institutions,” he said.

The SP also narrated a case where LSD strips were supplied in a smartwatch box. He said, "In a recent incident, we came across an incident where LSD strips were supplied in a smartwatch box. It looked like the delivery of a smartwatch ordered online but LSD strips were found beneath the smartwatch inside the box.”

It is very difficult to control drug menace. Every where in the world students also behaving as if they earn.they have ATM card and parents also earn plenty of money. There fore children don't think about tomorrow. Just enjoying. Parents don't have time to spend with children.
