Udupi, Feb 20: BJP National president J P Nadda was all praise for Udupi as he was addressing the booth-level committee members of the party here at the  MGM Grounds on Monday, February 20.

Addressing a large gathering of around 15,000 people, J P Nadda said, “Udupi was the gateway for the BJP to South India. The origin of Karnataka BJP’s success commenced with the winning of the municipality polls in Udupi. Udupi has a special place as far as the history of BJP is concerned. There was an age gap of around 20 to 30 years between me and Late Dr V S Acharya. But it was my privilege to work as a  colleague with him.

He was a committed person. BJP has come a long way from 2003 to 2023. Slowly and steadily we have become a ruling party and are in governance. We are fortunate to be BJP workers, which is the only party with a cadre and a mass following. This is the only party to have an ideological continuity and conformity. All the other parties are dynastic parties and family parties. But our party itself is family," he said.

The BJP national president said, "The Covid-19 vaccination drive of the Indian government was the fastest and an efficient one all over the world. India is the only country to evacuate its students amidst the Ukraine –Russia war. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with both Putin of Russia and Zelensky of Ukraine and safely evacuated the Indian students.

For 200 years the British ruled over us, but today India has overtaken Britain and has become the fifth largest economy in the world. Electronics goods manufacturing was around Rs 1 lac crore in 2014, but today it has crossed 6 lac crore. Karnataka is the second largest exporter of special purpose heavy vehicles. In 2019, 92% of mobile phones were imported to India, but today India has emerged as a manufacturing hub making 97% of the mobile phones in the world.

India is at the third position in the automobile sector. Vande Bharath express is the new revolutionary model in connectivity which we should understand. With an investment of Rs 33,000 crore by the Centre, Karnataka will be the second largest economy among Indian states. The state is also number one in attracting foreign direct investment. It is also contributing 75% of the defense aircrafts manufacturing."

"Under Modi’s leadership India is selling medicines to 200 countries. The cheapest and most effective medicines are now being produced in India. Hundred years ago there was a pandemic similar to what was witnessed in 2020-21 but then more people had died due to hunger. This is why 60 crore Indians are being provided with food supplies. Today, India has less than one per cent of extreme poverty. With the joint efforts of Modi, Yediyurappa and Bommai deprived, divested people have been uplifted by the NDA government.  Booth committee members should spread the message that empowerment of poor people is done. Go to the grassroots. Spread this messages and set agendas,” Nadda said.

More than 15,000 booth-level committee members of the Udupi district participated in the programme. Harish Poojary, booth president of the venue was also honoured on the occasion. Udupi district BJP felicitated J P Nadda on the occasion.

J P Nadda also visited Sri Krishna Math and held discussions with the various seers of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, state BJP president, Arun Singh, state in-charge C T Ravi, national chief secretary, BJP, Shobha Karandlanje, member of parliament Udupi –Chikkamagaluru constituency, ministers Kota Srinivas Poojary, S Angara, MLAs Raghupathi Bhat, Sunil Kumar, Halady Srinivas Shetty, Lalaji R Mendon, Suresh Naik Kuilady, president Udupi district BJP Pramodh Madhwaraj, former MLA Nayana Ganesh, vice-president state BJP Sumithra Nayak, president, CMC Udupi  and others were present on the occasion.
