Mangaluru, Feb 21: The Ullal City Municipality budget for the fiscal 2023-24 was presented on Tuesday, February 21. The JDS councilors opposed the budget and ridiculed Congress by flaunting flowers on their ears.

During the state budget presentation opposition leader Siddaramiah had played the same gimmick in Vidhana Soudha. The same was done by JDS members in Ullal City Municipality.

JDS members Dinakar Ullal, Abdul Basheer, Khaleel, Jabbar and Mustaq Patla kept flowers on their ears and vehemently opposed the budget presented by the ruling Congress.

BJP-nominated member Babu Bangera said that though Congress supports the budget and JDS opposes it, he is neutral. Immediately, city municipality vice president Ayub Manchila who was on the dais banged the table and supported the budget. This was objected by JDS senior member Dinakar Ullal. He said that BJP and Congress are the two faces of the same coin. This created a rift between the ruling and opposition parties. President chithrakala sang the National Anthem and put the curtains down to the meeting halfway.

SDPI member Asgar Ali asked the city municipality convener to mention non-completion of meeting in the agenda. However, members Bharathi and Veena D'Souza, who intervened, urged to file a police complaint against Asgar. Asgar who got enraged entered into a verbal spat with the woman members and this resulted in a mild physical scuffle between the members.
