Karkala, Feb 24: Villagers of Sanoor area have been deprived of drinking water as the pipes supplying the same are removed on the pretext of extension work of national highway between Moodbidri and Karkala.

In the past month, various drinking water pipes have been removed from Sanoor gram panchayat limits to Mudarangady. This has affected drinking water supply to homes and commercial establishments. Though the locals here brought the issue to the notice of the company that has got the contract of road development, they did not bother.

On Thursday February 24, villagers gathered together and protested. They said that they will not allow extension of highway unless their drinking water supply is restored. Leaders who rushed to the spot tried to convince the villagers.

Former member of zilla panchayat Udaya Kotian, former members of Sanoor gram panchayat Sanoor Narasimha Kamath, Karunakara Kotian and Prasad Poojary were present.

City police station officer Prasanna visited the spot and brought the situation under control.
