Mangaluru: Traffic system changed at Hampankatta on pilot basis

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Mar 5: The new city police commissioner has implemented a temporary change to the traffic system at Hampankatta on an experimental basis.

Barricades have been installed at the center of Hampankatta junction, and traffic movement has been temporarily altered.

Vehicles moving from Clock Tower end to Falnir Road (Mother Theresa Road) should proceed straight to Mulky Sundarram Shetty road and make a U-turn at Jos Alukkas to return to Hampankatta Junction. They can then take a free left and proceed to Falnir (Mother Theresa Road).

Vehicles moving from Falnir Road (Mother Theresa Road) to Navabharath Circle should turn left at Hampankatta Circle and proceed towards the Clock Tower. They should then make a U-turn at the Clock Tower, return to Hampankatta Junction, and take a free left towards Navbharath Circle.

All vehicles moving from Navbharath Circle to the Clock Tower should proceed through Panje Mangesh Rao road and reach Krishna Bhavana Katte junction via GHS road. Similarly, vehicles moving towards Falnir Road from Navbharath Circle should take a free left at Hampankatta Junction, proceed through Mulky Sundarram Shetty road, make a U-turn at Jos Alukkas, approach Hampankatta junction, take a free left to go to Falnir Road, or proceed straight towards the Clock tower.

Zebra crossings have been marked for the safety of pedestrians at Hampakatta junction, and pedestrians should only cross at these marked crossings.

Passengers should only board buses at K G Katte and Jos Alukkas bus stands. They should not board buses at any other point for any reason.

Due to new traffic changes, middle class people are the major sufferers to spend money for petrol and it's waste of time for everyone to take such a long U turn and to reach to their destination. Meanwhile, when VIP dignitaries, who serve for the people and when they travel on Govt vehicles that time this rule is not applicable, they move in whichever direction by stopping others vehicle who are waiting at the signal ( example: L O N D O N STATUE)

Tuglaque reforms Not att all practical. There is no space at Joy Alukkas to take a U turn. A reversal notification will reach Mangaloreans within few days.

This experiment will get results in few days. But at Nanthur junction ,from Kadri to Nanthur Padua is a free lane. But vehicles which are taking a diversion to Kulshekar side specially busses stops blocking the Nanthur Padua road. And the traffic Police just watches fun. Because of these vehicles ,others suffer blocks. Why they can't make a free lane to towards Nanthur Padua?

What's the logic behind having signboards in kannada? Understandably the intention is to promote kannada which is good but most localites know their way around town. Signboards are for the benefit of visitors and people travelling through town to other destinations. Not very helpful as they are now!

THIS NEW SYSTEM WILL BE A TOTTAL FAILURE. According to me. Our Traffic system is framed by our Traffic Police department, and they have zero knowledge about Mangalore traffic system. These Traffic Police officers are transfer in every two to three years. They only set our traffic system. But they must call a meeting of public along with experts. They must gather the knowledge from them before making any changes. FIRST OF ALL OUR MCC MUST SHIEFT THE SERVICE BUS STAND TO PUMPWELL FROM STATE BANK. Till that time our Hampankatta area will become worst day by day. In between 4 pm till around 8pm full buses on the road one behind other from state bank upto LHH Canarabank. If any body takes a video from Drone, the full area looks like service and city buses stand. So no use of any change, SHIEFT THE SERVICE BUS STAND, THEN SEE THE TRAFFIC SYSTEM. MCC should not BEND to Private buses owners and shoppers LOBBY.

All red traffic signal at hampankatta so that pedestrians cross freely. It used to be green red mix. Leaving all confused. None wants faultfinding

There is no more Falnir main road, it has been changed to St. Mother Teresa road. Same way St. Aloysius college road could be mentioned who knows Mulky Sundaramm Shetty road it was changed during the lock down. But talking about the change in traffic system first the police should not allow any buses to stop from Government college to light house hill (St.Aloysius college). Why not try this as pilot basis too. There will surely be a difference. The only reason given by the department will be not to be inconvenient to the general public, the actual fact is pressure from the private bus mafia. You simply cannot have buses stopping at every place. The buses should stop at designated places only. Non sense in the traffic change pilot will run away in a few days.

Thank God he did not say go to Bolar and take a U-turn and come back. I think Corona did not infect the lungs, it infected the brains.
