Udupi, Mar 16: ‘Manipal’, the name itself has earned immense value all over the world in the education sector. Schools are also joining hands with quality education at the grass root level.
Christ School, Manipal started two decades ago in the area on a small scale. Manipal had a thriving Christian community with a small church. The community mainly consists of faculty members, students or employees of the Manipal Group or other industries. To fulfill the basic needs like education to the children of such a group on a very small scale, the then parish priest of Christ Church, Fr Harold Mascarenhas conceived the idea and laid out the plan for ‘Christ School’.
Fr Romeo Lewis, Correspondent
Eliza Vaz, principal
Without much financial support or infrastructure in place, it was indeed a ‘Leap of faith’. With just two teachers and an attendant, Christ play school and kindergarten made a humble beginning on June 1, 1999 with 28 students. Since then, it's history now.
The Foundation
Three years after its inception, Christ School took a new leap. A new building found its way in 2004.
Fr Joseph Cardoza, the second correspondent of the Christ School, took up the challenge to upgrade the school. He initiated the process of affiliating the school to the Central Board of Secondary Education. Eventually Christ School acquired a considerable reputation as a school with a difference. The steadfast efforts of the principal and staff bore fruit and the school was affiliated to CBSE in 2008.
New Heights
With the arrival of Fr Francis Lewis as the correspondent in 2008, Christ School scaled new heights. Fr Lewis worked relentlessly, personally supervising every single phase of development. Today, Christ School has established itself a reputed school which the present and future generation of students will ever be indebted to. Thanks to all the benefactors who contributed generously for the growth of the school.
From 2016 onwards, Fr Frederick D’Souza upgraded the school building with a third floor which includes the new library, science lab and a multi activity room. His supervision and experience encouraged the staff towards professional development and undertake innovative pedagogical practices to improve student learning and work collaboratively.
On June 11, 2022 Christ School welcomed the new correspondent, Fr Romeo Lewis. In his tenure, Christ School is flourishing and walking on the right lines to reach the expected goal. The correspondent’s message on education is that all have to respect elders, teachers, neighbors, parents and the country, only then the true meaning of education completes in everyone’s life.
