Mumbai, Jun 21: The BJP in Maharashtra may well be expecting a fissure in the party soon, after talks with Gopinath Munde ended in a failure.
Reports claim that Munde may even be in talks with some of the Congress leaders, though the party itself has denied any such development. Nevertheless, Munde himself has dropped hints to this effects in his recent statements.
Expressing his disppointment over the way he has been treated by BJP national president Nitin Gadkari, Munde had earlier said that the party did not heed to him when he spoke out against the move to offer some of the key positions in the state to Gadkari's supporters, especially Pune BJP chief Vikas Mathkari, who has been given the go-ahead to form the executive committee by Gadkari.
Munde also has been urging the BJP to make him the leader of the opposition in the state assembly, a request that the party has rejected, and he also wants to handover his Lok Sabha seat to his daughter Pankaja. The BJP has rejected the latter proposal also, it is learnt.
BJP is firing all guns to try and retain Munde, who enjoys tremendous popularity in the state. He has been reportedly promised greater say in the state politics, and even offered the responsibility of leading the BJP campaign next elections, sources said.
However, with talks with Munde failing, the BJP will convene another meeting on Tuesday June 21 in Mumbai, which will be attended by the party MPs and MLAs, apart from senior leaders from Delhi.
