Patna, Jun 21: The Bihar administration is still unable to identify the type of fever which has taken the toll on at least 30 children in last one week in Muzaffarpur town, about 75 kilometers from capital Patna.

The administration has confirmed that children aged between three and eight years have been most affected.

On Sunday, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar told reporters that the disease has been not identified so far, but doctors are treating the patients based on symptoms.

Local doctors say the symptoms are similar to Japanese encephalitis. But an important symptom of Japanese encephalitis is stiffening of the neck, which is absent in the cases reported from Bihar.

The infected children have been admitted to hospital in northen Bihar.
