Bantwal, Mar 26: The Bantwal rural police have arrested a youth on charges of transporting cattle without any license.
Police also seized cattle and a pick-up vehicle used to transport the cattle and havee registered a case. The total worth of the seized items is over a lac of rupees including two calves.
The arrested accused is driver Praveen Pradeep Fernandes. Two other accused who were in the vehicle fled from the scene.
On Saturday, March 25, when Rural Police sub-inspector Udayravi Y M was on patrol duty in Faringepette, he received information about the cattle being transported.
When the vehicle carrying the cattle reached Ammemar railway crossing, the sub-inspector intervened and asked the driver to stop the vehicle. But, the driver stopped the vehicle a few meters away.
The police moved near the vehicle and arrested Praveen. The two other accused Royal Saldhana and Sameem Adyarpadavu fled from the vehicle.
Police have registered cases under Sections 5,7 and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act and Conservation Act 2020 and Prevention of Animal Cruelty Act section 11(D).
