Mangaluru, Mar 29: Several party workers of Congress and Nanadakumar Abhimani Balaga thronged Dakshina Kannada district Congress office in the city on Wednesday March 29, demanding a change of candidature in the Sullia constituency.

The protestors raised slogans demanding justice and claiming that the party should reconsider and modify the candidature in the Sullia constituency. The party should field H M Nandakumar for the forthcoming assembly elections.

It may be recalled, Congress had officially announced G Krishnappa as its candidate from Sullia constituency. The protestors also claimed that they submitted the demand to Kadaba and Sullia block presidents of the party.

Though district Congress vice president Sadhashiva Ullal came forward to receive the memorandum, the party workers demanded that the district Congress president Harish Kumar visit the spot and receive the memorandum.

Congress leader Balakrishna said that the All India Congress Committee should field H M Nandakumar from the constituency to take on the BJP. “Kumar is also a social worker who reached the people from grass root level. The party should reconsider its decision. In the interest of the party and the public, the party should field H M Nandakumar,” he said.

Earlier, the Congress had announced candidates for five constituencies. The grand old party had announced G Krishnappa as its official candidate from Sullia. Dissent activities have cropped up within the party and supporters have demanded to field Nandakumar for the forthcoming elections.

The protestors claimed that they will meet senior party leaders to submit their requests.
