Maoist Attacks Kill 6 Security Personnel in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Jun 27: Six security personnel were killed in two separate attacks by Maoists in Chhattisgarh on Sunday June 26.

Earlier in the day two paramilitary soldiers of Border Security Force (BSF)  were killed and four others were injured in a gun battle with the rebel group in  Kanker district.

Within hours  six policemen on a  search operation were killed when their vehicle hit a landmine in Dantewada district.

Inspector general (IG) of police in the Bastar region T J Langkumer said that the blast took place late in the evening at Koilibeda-Palnar road.

He also informed that all the injured officers have been shifted to hospital and a search operation is onset to trace a  missing constable.


The police claimed that body of a Naxalite was recovered  and  A - 303 rifle and 25 kg of improvised explosive device (IED) were also at the encounter spot.
 
Maoists have carried out many landmine explosions in the area since last one month,which killed more than 30 security personnel.


Operation Green Hunt was began in late 2009 by the government to tackle Maoist insurgency since it is considered as country's biggest internal security challenge.

It involves 50,000 troops and operating in five states - West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa and Chhattisgarh.
