Hyderabad: Sai Central Trust to Reveal Details of Assets

Hyderabad, Jun 28: Under the pressure exerted on it by Andhra Pradesh (AP) government, Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust has decided to provide complete details of the assets being run by the trust, today, through a press brief. The legacy left behind by godman and spiritual guide, Sri Sathya Sai Baba, is believed to be worth around Rs 40,000 crore.

The trust has mired in controversies of late. Allegations had started surfacing against the trust and its members since April 24, the day on which Sathya Sai Baba left for the heavenly abode. Recent incidents relating to transportation of large amounts of cash in vehicles have made the matters murkier.

The police had questioned J Ratnakar and V Srinivasan of the trust on Saturday and Monday respectively, after their names were revealed by the person found to be transporting currency worth Rs 35.5 lac in a vehicle to Karnataka recently.

On Monday June 27, the state government had directed the trust to provide complete information on its activities, sources of revenue, and assets in it possession. The government, through a press release, had said that it was felt necessary to make public all the facts about the functioning of the trust, in the backdrop of doubts that have arisen about its functioning. K Chakravarti, former IAS officer of AP government, who now functions as the trust secretary, has been entrusted with the responsibility of providing details of the trust’s empire including the organizational matters of the trust, list of members and addresses, background, their contact numbers, and other details, it is gathered.

The state government has also sought particulars of the fixed assets of the trust, major heads of expenditure, and accounts for the last five years.
