New Delhi, Jun 28: The Supreme Court condemned the Uttar Pradesh government for benefiting builders by aquiring major agricultural land in Greater Noida. The court also warned to intervene if the government continues with such aquisitions.

A Supreme Court bench comprising Justice P Sathasivam and Justice A K Patnaik on Monday June 27 noted that they do not want Nandigrams in all states.

The bench questioned the speedy process of state government in aquiring land for building flats in the area also asked the developers to opt for barren land under government istead of aquiring agricultural land.

The court warned that it will not ignore the process, if aquisition continues then action will be taken to make sure that it is not a partial development for only higher end of the society.

Last month, Allahbad high court has nullified Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority's (GNIDA) aquisition of 400 hecters of land in villages of Sahberi, Surajpur and Gulistaanpur, terming it as illegal.

Developers and GNIDA moved to the Supreme court as many buyers have booked their homes in upcoming projects.

The developers keep their silence though queries are mounting from the buyers. The option of shifting to other projects nearby has been offered by some groups such as Amrapali group.

The acquisition was part of GNIDA's well-known 2021 plan called the Industrial Development Plan that includes commercial and residential use.

The bench posted the hearing on the matter to July 5.
