Udupi: Transformer sparks forest fire near Bantakal Technical College

Udupi, Apr 2: A forest fire broke out near Bantakal Technical College in Bantakal after a power transformer sparked and ignited the dry vegetation on Sunday, April 2.

The fire quickly spread, and locals contacted the fire station for assistance. Despite their efforts, they were unable to contain the blaze, prompting Mir Muhammad Ghaus and his team from the Udupi fire brigade to rush to the scene. Adani fire brigade vehicles also joined the effort to extinguish the flames.

No injuries were reported, but the fire caused significant damage to the forest. Local authorities are investigating the cause of the transformer spark and taking steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.

    Not just transformers but few days back I saw a street light burst causing sparks which later ignited the dry leaves and dry waste lying around. Luckily few people threw water and extinguished the fire.
