Bengaluru, Apr 4: Ramanagara JD(S) MLA and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy’s wife Anita Kumaraswamy has clarified that she is not contesting in this year’s assembly elections and has asked her partymen and people not to believe in rumours.

In a veiled attack at H D Revanna’s wife Bhavani, who is firm on contesting from Hassan assembly constituency, Anita made it clear in a series of tweets that she has decided to give up her Ramanagara seat to her son Nikhil Kumaraswamy to contest on her own.

Responding to the rumours being spread that she is also interested in contesting from Tumkur if Bhavani is fielded as JD(S) candidate from Hassan, Anita said: “I have no intention of contesting."

She termed the speculation over her desire to contest as “nothing but rumours, which is totally false and a misinformation.’’

“I have given up my Ramanagara seat to my Nikhil Kumaraswamy. Where is the question of contesting again,’’ she said and claimed that she obeys the dictates of party leaders and the party.

Anita Kumaraswamy said she had contested in 2008 following the by-election caused by Operation Kamala abiding by the decision of JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda. Subsequently, she said: “I obeyed Deve Gowda’s direction to give up my Madhugiri seat for Veerabhadraiah and confined myself in domestic as well as party work. Again in 2013, I had to contest from Channapatna due to pressures from the party workers. Even then, I had followed the party’s directions.’’

She said that she was compelled to contest from Ramanagara in the by-election in 2018 when some people tried to “backstab her party.”

“I followed the dictates of Deve Gowda and H D Kumaraswamy. I am eternally grateful to the voters of Madhugiri and Ramanagara for supporting me as their own daughter. I have done my best for the development of both the constituencies,” she said.

Kumaraswamy’s wife also made it clear that she has voluntarily decided to give up Ramanagara seat to Nikhil Kumaraswamy in the interests of the party and the people.

“I have always followed the decisions of JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda and have never gone against the party interests or brought dishonour to the family. I will never do it,” she said and asked people to trust her views and ignore the rumours.
