Mangaluru: Direct flights to Kuwait reduced from three to one, passengers face hardship

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Apr 12: Number of direct flights that were operating from the international airport in the city to Kuwait is reduced to just one from three from March 19. Thousands of passengers are facing hardship due to this change.

Neither the union aviation ministry nor Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have given any clarification for the reduction of direct flights. Due to this decision, countless passengers, especially women, are facing extreme inconvenience.

Thousands of natives of Mangaluru and other parts of undivided district of Dakshina Kannada are working in Kuwait. They and their family members used to travel directly to Kuwait. In addition, natives of Kasargod, Kodagu, and Hassan and nearby district people were also using this facility as it is easier for them to reach their native place.

According to DGCA, at least 30000 people travel between Mangaluru and Kuwait. Some other surveys say that this number is around 50000.

Due to the reduction of direct flights from the city to Kuwait, the passengers have to fly from Kannur, Panaji or Bengaluru international airports. This is not easy as the passengers have to get checked in for two different flights. It is time consuming as well as tedious. The plight of women travelling with children is really difficult. Passengers have urged the central government to increase the direct flights to three per week as before.

Now the Airports is sold to Corporates you know better whom. They charge the landing and parking cost which is increased therefore its now not cost effective to land in mangalore Airport or else charge to customers with increased ticket cost. Which is not feasible. When number of customers are more why there is decrease in flights.

Mangalore and Air india express is go with monopoly by not wanting any other airline wanting to come into m'lore, as they are scared of seat loss. Though air arbia and oman air wants to air 2 services to m'lore from Sharjah and Muscat, this has been stopped by the indian DGCA and still he battle is going on. If both these airlines start to arrive into m'lore, then they are sure of passengers taking the options of oman air and air arabia, due to its high service level and prompt arrival / departure. its a curse for each of the m'lorean that we are not getting served, while Goa airport is welcoming many other airlines. Is our undivided district is not able to promote tourism ? or for what are the airline like air india express scared off ?? All the politicians are just corrupt and everyone only wants to make money for their own pockets.

How can they make money otherwise? They charged 49K for one way ticket to Kuwait from Mangalore in December. The lesser the flights, the more they stand to gain.

Air India is now owned by Tata. There is not clarification that who is behind reducing flights. I don’t think the Tatas will bow before any lobby. They will even welcome competitors. This must be the handiwork of politicians before whom our benki MP must have bowed down. Or perhaps he is still not aware of it. Why is there no statement from him even after 3 weeks?
