New Delhi, Jul 4: On Monday, July 4, Supreme Court (SC) termed the black money issue as 'Extremely serious case' and slammed centre government for not handling it in a right manner.
The court blamed Government for not providing adequate information and the necessary documents despite constant direction from the court.
Due to this, to track the black money issue, Supreme Court has now appointed a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The team will now engage in tracking the black money stashed in foreign countries by the Indians. The team led by Jeevan Reddy, retired judge of Supreme Court will attain the power to travel abroad and investigate the issue and collect required information.
Earlier, the Central Government had formed a committee headed by revenue secretary to develop a plan to bring back black money. But this committee will be scraped, as Supreme Court has lost faith in it.
It said that, at least one trillion USD black money is abroad. Noted advocate Ram Jethmalani and others have filed a petition regarding this in Supreme Court.
Black money issue has been a important weapon from opposition parties since last couple of months, and Manmohan Singh led UPA government has been warned by supreme court several times for not handling the issue seriously.
