Gokarna, Apr 19: Jyotsna Kagal, a 74-year-old Anganwadi worker, defies her age by cycling throughout Bankikodla in Gokarna. Jyotsna has been fond of cycling since childhood, and at 14, she learned how to ride a bicycle by watching cyclists on the roads of Gokarna.

Despite not being able to afford her own bicycle, Jyotsna continued to ride by borrowing bikes from those who knew her. These bicycles were designed for boys and men and had front handlebars, which were not comfortable for her, but Jyotsna managed to ride them. Later, after joining as an Anganwadi worker, Jyotsna bought her first bicycle in 1968. The bicycle she currently rides was purchased in 1988.

In 1976, Jyotsna chased and caught a thief on her bicycle, earning her the title "Cycle Jyotsna" from local newspapers.

Jyotsna's husband was a soldier, and she has a son who works as a teacher. After retiring from her Anganwadi work, Jyotsna began working in Postal RD making, helping educate many poor people about the monthly income provided by the government. She has even assisted some in obtaining this support. She briefly worked in the newspaper field before moving on to her current work in Postal RD and farming.

Jyotsna was also the first woman to serve as the president of the Mahabaleshwar cooperative society in Gokarna for nine years. Villagers fondly call her Jyotsna Amma.

Jyotsna's dedication to cycling and healthy living is inspiring. She practices yoga and meditation in the morning and takes a bicycle ride before starting her work on the farm. She meets with clients in the evening before resting for the day.

Despite living alone, Jyotsna is content and fulfilled, and her energy at the age of 74 is an inspiration to others, encouraging them to face life's challenges with courage.
