Singapore Mangaloreans and Goans 'SingManGo' celebrate Easter

Media Release

Singapore, Apr 22: The festive spirit of Easter lingered on beyond the day of its celebration. Thoughtfully, the SingManGo family gathered to make Easter a memorable one. An event was thus planned for an evening celebration on April 15. The informal social group, which is growing in popularity, consisting of Singapore Mangaloreans and Goans (hence, called SingManGo), came together in large numbers to make the event a memorable one. With over 115 family members in attendance, the evening was full of fun, games, and delicious food. It felt very much like the typical Mangalorean family gathering and reminisced the thoughts of the times way back home.

Ranging from the pioneers who first formed the SingManGo family to the ones that recently joined, the crowd had its taste for variety. As each member made an entry, the chattering, laughter, and mirth were gaining momentum in the Pen & Inc Grand Hall. The event kick-started with icebreaker activities that helped everyone get to know each other even better. Families had the opportunity to take pictures at the photo booth that had quite a colourful decor, and kids had a blast getting temporary tattoos on the theme 'Easter'.

Plenty of games for children and adults were organised, which were both fun and engaging. Everyone participated in the activities with great enthusiasm. The highlight of the evening was the prayer and thanksgiving by the senior and most respected Mangalorean in the SingManGo family, George Shenoy.

The delicious Western and Mangalorean Fusion Cuisine prepared by Mangalorean Joel Saldanha from Pen & Inc Singapore was a hit among the attendees. The food was a perfect blend of spices and flavours that satisfied everyone's taste buds and a generous help to refill our plates did not escape the mind.

Vinol Joy D'Souza was the MC for the event, and Richard D'Souza won the hearts of many by dressing up in a special Daiji get-up in Mangalorean Pudvayn. The onstage performances by Heeru and Clitus Fernandes and Priya Lewis were melodious, and the kids' performances by Keisha D'Souza and Yvonne John received the loudest applause from the crowd. An occasion like this would go incomplete without shaking a leg. The event had a musical ending with Baila and Indian dance performances that were joined by all age groups on the dance floor. The popular dance numbers danced their entry in the playlist compounding the enthusiasm on the floor.

All SingManGoers participated in the activities very enthusiastically and the event was a huge success. There were very noteworthy contributions in initiating and organising the event by Noel & Prathiba Saldanha with their children Keith and Karen. The setup, events, games & photography teams were very well organised and hands-on done by Niteen & Priya Lewis, Abigail Lewis, Sourav Kamilya & Prerana Patrao, Neha Menezes, Vidya Lobo, Valentina Rodrigues, Richard D'Souza, Hansel Lobo, Kevin Machado, and Shaila D'Souza. The event was penned down to share with our global ManGoers by Brayan and Deepika Cutinha.

A small 13-min video of the event was put together by Hansel Lobo and can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/196H4tBWiVA

The SingManGo Easter gathering was a perfect opportunity for the group to come together and celebrate the festive occasion. The grand SingManGo family had a great time, and several new beautiful, cherishing memories were made to cherish for a good long time. With such enjoyable, family-friendly events, SingManGo has cemented its position as a close-knit community that celebrates its culture and traditions with great enthusiasm and always finds reasons to come together in the typical Mangalorean Goan Family Style.
