JPC to Question Former Bureaucrats on 2G Scam

New Delhi, Jul 7: Nine former telecom secretaries and four Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) chairmen will be questioned by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) from Thursday July 7.

The JPC has been probing India's telecom pricing policy in the backdrop of the alleged financial irregularities in alloting 2G mobile phone licenses.

Former TRAI chairman M S Verma and Telecom secretary A V GoKak along with Siddharth Behura who is currently in jail on charges of cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy in the 2G scam had held office between 1998 to 2008.

They will individually have to affirm the policy prescriptions and decisions taken during their service period that has allegedly resulted in huge loss to the exchequer.

The JPC will conduct four sittings from July 7-13 to record the statements.
