Mangaluru, Apr 24: A man visiting the beach with his family was swept away by strong currents while playing with his son in the water here.

The deceased, identified as Khalid (51) from Mulali, was later found on the shore in the evening.

His son was rescued by nearby swimmers and taken to Deralakatte hospital. The Ullal police have taken the body for post-mortem.

During the rescue, Jabbar, Ashraf, Imthiaz, and Mohammed rushed to help and rescued Khalid's son. Jabbar handed over his purse and watch to someone he knew before jumping into the sea. Other rescuers also entrusted their valuables to the same person. As there were too many items, Jabbar's purse, which contained Rs 8,000 in cash, may have been lost. Anyone who finds the purse is requested to return it to the owner.
