‘Astitva Mangalore’ team arrives to stage ‘Salgi’, ‘Jugari’ for Daiji Dubai anniversary

Dubai, Apr 29: Daiji Dubai, the forum of Konkani writers in the UAE is fully geared up to celebrate its 23rd anniversary with the usual grandeur at Emirates Theatre, Jumeirah Dubai on April 30 at 4:30 pm.

‘Daiji Anniversary’ which has always been a high profile and professionally managed entertainment programme is considered one of the prestigious Konkani events and being patronized by a large audience every year. During the event, the prestigious ‘Daiji Puroskar’ will be awarded to a Konkani literature personality. This year, the award will be bestowed on noted Konkani promoter, novelist, and short story writer Valley Quadras, Ajekar.

Two dramas ‘Salgi’ and ‘Jugari’ are all set to give a different experience to Konkani drama lovers of UAE. Both the dramas will be staged by an immensely gifted Konkani drama troupe ‘Astitva Mangalore’ led by Christy Ninasam.

All artistes from Mangaluru lead by Christy Ninasaam, Fr Dr Alwyn Serrao, acclaimed director Arun Lal arrived on Friday April 28 at Dubai airport. Convenor of Daiji Dubai Forum Nanu Marol Thottam along with founder member and convenor Dayan D’Souza Mukamaar, former convenor Dinesh Correa, former convenor of Daiji Rang Mandir and current co-convenor of Daiji Rangmandir extended a warm welcome to all of them with floral bouquets and flowers.

Speaking to media, team leader Christopher D’Souza Ninasam informed that they were thrilled by the publicity made by the Daiji team and the response from drama lovers. “Performing in this part of the world especially in the UAE is a challenge. This is our 3rd trip to the UAE and every trip is a challenging one. We have always observed that the Konkani drama crowd of UAE is very supportive and are very good observers too. Hence, we will not leave any stone unturned. From our side, we have done our preparations well. Even though ‘Salgi’ is being presented for the 25th time, we have prepared for the same like it is our maiden show. The other drama ‘Jugari’ is being staged for the second time. Having staged its premiere this Wednesday, all the drama lovers enjoyed the show and blessed us with very good reviews.”

Writer of ‘Salgi’ Fr Dr Alwyn Serrao informed that the UAE crowd will definitely enjoy both the dramas. “Both the dramas offer good messages to take home and apply them in their life. All our artistes have done their homework well and I am sure that they will make full justice matching he crowd’s high expectations.”

Convenor of Daiji Dubai Nanu Marol Thottam said, “We are very happy with the feedback received from our audience. All our efforts from the last 4 months have yielded good results.With a jam-packed audience, it will be a houseful show. With our generous sponsors who have always stood by us like rock pillars, it was possible for us to organise such a mega event. We are always grateful and indebted to them. The programme will start at sharp 4:30 pm with a short stage programme which also includes the presentation of the ‘Daiji Literary Award – 2022’ to acclaimed writer/poet Valley Quadros. Immediately after stage programme, the first drama will begin. The entire event will by 9:00 pm. And to make this possible, all drama lovers should occupy their seats well in time.

There is a huge demand for tickets. Hence, the organisers have kindly requested those who have purchased the tickets and are not able to attend the show, to return their tickets to the organizers so that people who want to witness the dramas, can watch it.
