Already, treasure amounting to over Rs one lac crore has been recovered from the five vaults of Lord Padmanabha Swamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
However, one will have to wait for that, and it is not sure for how long. The Supreme Court on Friday July 8 passed an order that the sixth vault will be opened only after the treasure found in the first five vaults are documented, videographed and photographed.
Also, the five vaults that have been sealed will not be opened again till the inventory is ready. A curator will be appointed to assess the actual value of the treasure, the SC said.
Meanwhile, a statement by the chief trustee of the temple, Marthanda Varma, that the treasure did not belong to the former royal family, was also noted.
Varma, through his counel K K Venugopal argued that the temple belonged to the public and the treasure should remain as property of the temple deity.
