Puttur: Second PU student drowns while fishing in river

Puttur, May 1: A tragic incident occurred at Sanyasikaya of the Netravati river in Kempi Majalu of Uppinangady, resulting in the drowning of Roopesh (17), a second PU student who was fishing in the river on Sunday afternoon.

Roopesh was studying in second PU at the Uppinangady government PU college and was a state-level Kabaddi player. He was the son of Odiyappa, a resident of Pelathrodi Mane in Bajathoor village.

Roopesh had just received the results of his second PU examination on Saturday and had come to visit his relatives in Kattecchar of Ilanthila village. While there, he went fishing in the river with his relative Akilesh.

Roopesh drowned while fishing, as he did not know how to swim. His relative Akilesh managed to pull him out of the water, but Roopesh was declared dead by a doctor at the hospital where he was rushed.

Further investigation is being carried out by the Uppinangady police.
