Kalka Mail : Rescue Train Brings Back 165 Survivors to Delhi

New Delhi, Jul 11:  A rescue train brought back the 165 survivors of the Delhi-Howrah train mishap to the capital early on Monday July 11.

The Delhi-Howrah train had derailed at Malwan station on Sunday July 10 killing at least 30 and injuring about 100 passengers. Fifteen bogies of the train derailed in this accident.
 
The train had 1,200 passengers on board when it derailed.

All the injured passengers were rushed to Kanpur hospital.

Meanwhile, another train left Howrah station carrying relatives and friends of the victims to the site.






Few passengers are still believed to be trapped under the debris. Rescue operations are still being carried out.

About hundred men from the army have reportedly rushed to the site with medical supplies.

Railway authorities said the speed of the train when it got derailed was 108 km per hour.

However, the exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed shock and has instructed Minister of State for  Railways, K H Munniyappa, to visit the site and provide all resources for the rescue operation.

A probe has been ordered into the accident.

Union Minister of State for Railways, Mukul Roy, announced that an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lac wuld be paid to kin of the deceased and those who are seriously injured would receive Rs 1 lac each.
