Kundapur, Jun 1: Sea beach at Kota and Kotathattu under the limits of Kodi gram panchayat is facing the possibility of sea erosion during monsoon this year.
The retaining wall of Manoor Padukare beach, that attracts lots of visitors during the year, is completely collapsed. During rains most of the land area will be washed away into the sea according to locals.
Though permanent retaining wall was constructed few years ago, the huge boulders of the wall are collapsing as the years pass by. These boulders are washed away into the sea due to huge waves. People representatives are least bothered and have not visited the spot.
Beach roads are developed in Kotathattu but no attention is given to repair the collapsing retainer wall. Ministers and MLAs visit the spot during monsoon to see the destruction but do not take any concrete action.
Manoor Padukare road, Kadu fish cutting area, Manoor fishermen road, Kotathattu Padukare area near the house of Sahira Banu, Kodi gram panchayat Hosabengre lighthouse area and Kodi Kanyana Rama Mandir areas face sea erosion every year.
Locals say that if a permanent retainer wall is built before the onset of monsoon, no problems will occur. There are many houses nearby and even lives could be lost due to sea erosion in addition to destruction of houses.
