Mangaluru, Jul 19: Dakshina Kannada district police have launched a campaign to book drug peddlers (selling of banned drug substances) and their chains and also banish them under the Goonda Act for which the local stations have been given targets.

Information pertaining to those involved in drug activities and peddling have now been passed on to the Intelligence department, Cen police, local police stations and special teams.

The campaign is aimed at people in the age group of 15 years to 40 years who are engaged in consumption and peddling of drugs and focuses primarily on students who become victims of drug abuse. Tabs are being kept on students and their activities and especially their behaviour by the principals and teachers who will report to the police any suspicion regarding the consumption and peddling of drugs. Students who become victims to drugs are also subjected to counselling based on their behaviour and on suspicion.

Students are being subjected to examinations and investigations pertaining to consumption of drugs. In the last two weeks 11 students have been identified as consuming drugs. Examinations to detect the drug consumption is a simple process and the test results will be available within a day.

Students have been instructed not to hide their drug consumption habits and so are the school teachers, principals and the parents.

The superintendent of police said that such students should be identified and brought out of their ways lest they become addicts posing danger to society.

Finally something good is being done towards drug consumers. I suggest be discret, treat and coinsrl them. Involve positive people in this web. It is a social stigma to parents first then hell on earth. But then peddlers should be moved under goonda act or whatever.

It all starts with alcohol, government should introduce quota system for alcohol. Qatar is a good example. Cigrette and alcohol are the worst drugs. Wine should be allowed and encouraged, it helps the liver and for religious purposes.
