Beltangady, Jul 26: Several tourists are ignoring safety norms and climbing the rocks near the waterfalls at Somanakadu in Charmadi Ghat.

As there is heavy rainfall, there are several waterfalls in the ghat. Several years ago, a youth had climbed the rocks during the rainy season and met a tragic death.

It may be recalled, Sharath from Bhadravathi fell into Arashina Gundi falls in Kollur and since has gone missing. Though one cannot forget this incident, the tourists are acting in a negligent way, opine the public.

“Though two police vehicles are patrolling to keep an eye on mishaps, when they leave the spot, several tourists again begin to behave in an irresponsible way. As it a national highway, tourists travel by this road. Though there are caution boards on display, tourist show total negligence. This may lead to untoward incidents,” said visitor who chose to remain anonymous.
