Udupi, Jul 28: Padubidri police arrested Mufizul Sheikh (26), a native of Murshidabad district in West Bengal, on the accusation of sexually harassing a five-year-old on the pretext of providing her biscuits.

Mufizul used to work in a multi-storey building that is under construction at Padubidri. The parents of the victim girl also used to work as labourers in the same building and they are also the natives of Murshidabad. On July 26 afternoon, the Mufizul told the parents of the victim girl that he is taking the girl to his room in order to give her biscuits. However, he sexually harassed the girl.

The girl started complaining of stomach pain after returning to her room. The parents took her to the primary health centre at Padubidri. Doctor suspected sexual assault after physical examination of the girl.

The girl was then taken to Udupi government hospital for women and children under the escort of woman police constable of Padubidri police station. The doctors at the hospital confirmed sexual harassment of the girl.

Accused Mufizul was arrested immediately by the police. He was sent to 15 days of judicial custody. Kaup police circle inspector Poovaiah is investigating further.
