Mohammed Nawaz is a marketing leader-turned-author, known for his debut novel, "That Girl." With a background in strategic marketing and a passion for storytelling, Nawaz weaves a tale of love, loss and self-discovery in the captivating narrative of ‘That Girl’.

His contribution to marketing has been widely acknowledged, with The Economic Times awarding him the ‘Most Promising Tech Marketer Award’ and being named the Winner of ‘Marketing Mavericks’, organised by the world marketing congress. In addition, he was featured in the elite list of ‘50 Marketing Marvels’ from a list of 500 as India’s Best Marketing & Communications Professional for his outstanding achievements.

What inspired you to write ‘That Girl’?

‘That Girl’ was born from a deeply moving and personal experience that has stayed with me since childhood. When I was ten, I attended a funeral where I witnessed a little girl, no more than three or four years old, desperately trying to wake up her deceased father, believing he was only sleeping. This heart-wrenching moment left an indelible mark on my soul, igniting a desire to explore the fictional journey of a similar young girl and the life she leads after such a profound loss. This became the seed from which ‘That Girl’ blossomed.

How has writing "That Girl" impacted you as an author?

Writing ‘That Girl’ has been a deeply fulfilling journey. As a professional marketer, my day job is corporate storytelling. However, exploring fiction allowed me to explore the depths of human emotions, refine my storytelling skills, and connect with readers on a profound level. It's an experience that will always hold a special place in my heart. This is more fulfilling than a corporate job.

What do you hope readers will learn from reading ‘That Girl’?

I hope the characters' journeys move readers and find a renewed appreciation for the complexities of love and relationships. Ultimately, I want ‘That Girl’ to leave a lasting impression and resonate with readers long after they finish the book. Sometimes we seek love, but the love we seek is right before us. But we fail to recognise it.

What can readers look forward to in your future writing endeavours?

I am excited to continue exploring the intricacies of the human experience through storytelling. Readers can look forward to more thought-provoking and emotionally engaging narratives that delve into themes of love, growth, and self-discovery. I am also exploring a book on B2B Tech Marketing which is my specialisation at work. I have over 15 years of experience working for tech companies. This will have interviews of various CMOs and CEOs. I have received many requests from start-ups and academia to narrate B2B Marketing.

Can you provide a glimpse into the characters' journey in the book “That Girl”?

In life, we make plans and most times plans don’t go as we desire mainly because the universe has a better plan. Similarly, in the book, Ifra, Rizwan, Susan, and Peter's lives take an unexpected turn as they embark on a quest to unite with their respective partners. An unforeseen obstacles derail their plans, triggering internal conflicts. These challenges force the characters to confront their deepest fears and desires, highlighting the sacrifices that true love often demands.

How does ‘That Girl’ stand out in the realm of romantic dramas?

‘That Girl’ mesmerises readers with its unexpected plot twists and unforgettable characters. It also showcases some of the romantic poems as part of the plot. The intricate details and eloquent prose create an immersive experience, unravelling the complexities of relationships and showcasing the unwavering strength of human relationships.
