Mangaluru: Mega statue of Sacred Heart of Jesus blessed at Valencia church

Mangaluru, Aug 19: A unique and mega statue of Sacred Heart of Jesus was blessed on Friday August 18 by Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, the bishop of Mangalore.

This was a dream project of the parishioners and was formally launched by donors of the project, a year ago. Parish priest Fr Roque D’Sa had then blessed the project. This dream project was donated in the memory of the late Cyril and Alice Monteiro by their only daughter Jennifer Mascarenhas and son-in-law Noel Mascarenhas Valencia/Urwa/USA as a loving tribute in their honour. 

Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha blessed the statue and led the prayer. Fr Roque, parish priest welcomed the gathering. Ronald Rodrigues vice-president parish pastoral council read the names of the donors. Romeo and Mabel Saldanha donated for the altar beautification. Godwin and Sherlyn D’Souza donated for the mega fans and chandeliers. They were honoured by the bishop. Daya Victor Lobo and others who worked hard on these projects were also honoured during the programme.

Parish priest Fr Roque D’Sa, assistant parish priest Fr Vijay Monteiro, Ronald Rodrigues vice-president and Rita Menezes secretary parish council, Louis Pinto coordinator of the project and parishioners were present in large numbers during the ceremony. Rita Menezes secretary PPC proposed the vote of thanks.

All were served with refreshments.

The statue of the ‘Sacred Heart of Jesus' is erected on the belfry of the church at a height of 60 ft from the ground level. The height of the statue is 18 ft.
