Renaming of India as Bharath not needed, says Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, Sep 5 (IANS): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that the Narendra Modi-led Central government’s move to rename the country as Bharat is not required.

Speaking to reporters, he maintained that the Constitution mentions the name of the country as India and it is the name which is agreed upon by one and all.

"There is no need for renaming it," he added.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said that "the Central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, out of fear of our Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), are up to changing the name of Republic of India into Republic of Bharat".

"One can observe that the BJP and Central government are seeing their defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Indian currency has the name India on it and attempts are made to change it," Shivakumar stated.

"We are all Indians. It is not correct to change the name of the country out of fear of defeat. Their thinking is much more. If this is revealed, people will be shocked. I will speak on it at a different time. I am opposing the proposal as the President of Karnataka Congress. This politics will not last long. You can’t be in power for long, don’t do this," he added.

@DR KUSUMA KUMARI GUNJI MBBS DGO DNB(OBST AND GYNAE); These name changes are just superficial; changes don't make a country; jobs, education, healthcare and old age benefits do! What about the incalculable brand value that India has got/created internationally? BTW, one can easily understand what DGO stands for; then why elaborate?

What is the need to change name officially when both names are already in existence? Bharat is not a new name and it officially exists in Hindi. The official name of the country is Bharat in Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, etc. and India in English. Just as Japan in English and Nippon in Japanese, Espana in Spanish and Spain in English, Deutschland in German and Germany in English. Even educated Arabs know that Al-Hind (India) is known as Bharat in Hindi. Changing names spending lakhs, if not crores and wasting time in parliament over such debates is a futile exercise.

Living in fools paradise. Proposing something easy like eating a piece of cake but to bring the effect in every way of life, system, Judiciary, records, etc. A - Z is an impossible task. Our passports, Adar information. Degree certificate, educational institutions, geographical information and what not? International tourists would go totally confused searching in the World map. Our leaders are really creating blunders because they are there only for time pass. BJP is really a PAIN .......😞

In our constitution we have two names for the country, India as well as Bharat. Changing the name will cost the country billions of dollars, because each and everything will change including the currency. The name change will cost Indians as well as the change will mean expenses for all peoples of the world. What does it matter for the 60 Million Indians are destitute, and over 350 million who live below the poverty line. Instead let the government use the money wisely in providing Food, Education, Health Care and better infrastructure. We have wasted so many crores of rupees, while the poor continue to reel under the hyperinflation of the day. God Bless India.

Who ever wins or looses in 2024 is a different issue. Bharat is the original name of our country , so there is no question of renaming. Someone is very grateful for Britishers for ruling Bharat. But had they not looted Rs.45 trillions from Bharat , now our people would have ruled the world in our own way without going out of Bharat.

Bajapa has won in every election by either back door tactics or creating provoking/polarizing issues just before any major election... They can not go to people with any of the people friendly achievements... Only nipple tactics election after election... they know with recent atrocities minority votes are forgotten thing... Only aim now is to keep the gullible lower caste Hindus within their voter base... It is tangible only by polarization politics... Bharat is anytime ours for life from time immemorial... But the timing of such a back door technique is highly questionable... Once again they will make common man forget his daily work and come to streets with another disruptive objective....

His photo at all the Govt. offices, Court of law, schools, bus stands, municipality etc... 4. Declare that India got independence in 2014. 5. Make Khaki Chaddi as civil dress code. 6. Only his friends to be in power. 7. And if possible, live forever.

Kusuma, you forgot the fact that some parties only achievement is changing the names. Enlighten me what improvement we got in Mangaluru (compared to Mangalore) and Bengaluru (compared to Bangalore) and many more in Karnataka as well as in India. Years go, the structures were named after someone who is responsible for that structure directly indirectly, mostly after the death of that person. If I am not wrong, British Monarchy was different that lot of structures named after her when British built them even when they were alive, like Queen Victoria or Prince Charles. In Indian tradition it was more after they left this world. Just changing the name without contributing anything to it is silly.

India name come from grate Indian River Indus and it is in Pakistan and Indus Valley civilization was around Pakistan. So the India name rightfully belong to Pakistan and Pakistan is equally part of Indian sub continent. So my Pakistani brothers want to change Pakistan in to India. Most suitable name to India is Gangaram. Bharat is very small comparing to Ganga and Rama.

Just because the opposition alliance abbreviated their name to INDIA, BJP does not have to change the name, that would cost billions to government exchequer. What if the alliance would change their abbreviated name from INDIA to BHARAT? Will the govt. change again the age-old country's name? BJP said they were not bothered about opposition party's INDIA. If they were really not concerned, why they have to suddenly change the country's name? A bunch of jokers replacing the country's name without public support is nothing but highhandedness. I don't think even an average BJP supporter would like the idea of these jokers, who have nothing to do but just destroy peace in the country. Do they think changing the name would reduce inflation, create more jobs, reduce poverty.....? Mark my words, replacing the beautiful English name India with Bharat, would definitely go against BJP during the next election.
