Kasargod, Sep 20: The Hosadurga station police have apprehended three men accused of entering a shop and snatching a gold chain from a woman's neck.
The arrested individuals are Mohammed Ijaz M K (24) from Palakku, Ibrahim Badusha (25) from Panayal Cherkappara, and Abdul Naser (24) from Kuniya. They are accused of entering a shop in Madikai on September 10, posing as customers in need of water, and then snatching a gold chain weighing three sovereigns from a woman named Baby (50), who is the wife of the shop's proprietor. After the theft, they fled on a motorcycle.
The police, upon registering a case, formed a special team to apprehend the suspects. They meticulously reviewed approximately 480 CCTV camera footage from nearby residences and businesses while keeping a watchful eye on the accused. Thanks to their efforts, the police were able to identify and subsequently arrest the suspects.
These individuals are also suspected of being involved in other chain-snatching incidents, such as one that occurred at Bedadka station limits on February 2, entering an ayurvedic shop on March 26 and snatching a gold chain from another woman at Cheruppadi Arara.
According to police sources, the suspects have been involved in theft cases in various police station limits within Kasargod, Kankanady, and Bunder. Additionally, they are believed to have been involved in bike thefts.
Mohammed Ijaz, who began engaging in criminal activities at the age of 17, has six cases of drug transportation and sales registered against him in Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasargod. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Badusha has 17 pending cases in Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasargod districts, while Abdul Naser has over 12 pending cases in Kasargod and various police stations in Mangaluru, as confirmed by the police.
