Mangaluru, Sep 24: In a unique educational endeavor, students delved into the world of agriculture to gain insights into the lives of farmers.

A picturesque scene unfolded as children gathered in a paddy field situated in the family-owned land of Kettikal Lingappa Salian in Tiruvailu on the outskirts of the city.

Amidst the lush greenery, the students couldn't resist enjoying the melodious "Obele Obele" song. The agricultural training was attended by fifth, sixth, and seventh-grade students, along with former students of the DK District Government Higher Primary School in Vamanjoor Tiruvail. The school's teachers led the excursion to the paddy fields to provide the children with firsthand experience of the rice farming process, with Babu Salian imparting valuable knowledge to the eager learners.

After gaining insights into paddy cultivation, the students took a break for some recreational activities, including running races and tug-of-war competitions in the field. Former students also joined in the fun, fostering a sense of camaraderie.

As the students reluctantly returned to school, they carried with them cherished memories of an educational outing that left a lasting impression.

The implementation of this proposal entails making agricultural education mandatory in all schools and colleges, incorporating a dedicated subject on agriculture along with practical classes in agricultural practices. Such a curriculum revision aims to instill a keen interest in the upcoming generation regarding the field of agriculture. Given that a substantial 40% of India's GDP is contingent upon agriculture, this initiative has the potential to provide a significant boost to the nation's economy. By positioning agricultural products as a primary Unique Selling Proposition (USP) for exports, India can attract foreign investments and foster greater international dependency on its agricultural sector.
