Mysuru youth who set himself afire over police harassment, succumbs


Mysuru, Nov 14 (IANS): The youth who set himself afire over alleged police harassment succumbed to his injuries here on Tuesday.

Twenty-three-year-old Kiran Kumar, a resident of Nagarle village in Nanjangud taluk, had taken the extreme step at his residence due to police harassment.

In a video, he claimed that he was ending his life due to the harassment by the police in the custody.

He was rushed to K.R. Hospital where he was undergoing treatment for burn injuries.

Biligere police had taken the victim into custody in connection with an incident of a violence in the Nagarle village and tortured him.

After escaping from the custody, the youth returned home, poured petrol on his body and set himself ablaze.

Further investigation in the matter is on.

    O my God.Did the police harassment reached to this Point that People arent able to tolerate it and suicide.Now let take steps to change the sides and said Police should be under arrest and harass them same way.And last throw them out of POlice duty ,in jail for long years.Sidda Govt must look into it ,investigate and findout who was it.Think they are on top ,can do what they want?wrong .The should shiver now.May his soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to his family He should have instead of suicide inform Higher authorities someone else and see that Police charbi is slowly disappearing.Height of their authority ,Power.

    Police officers in India are often abusive towards the public , they do this sometimes to demand bribes from them.

    Targetted harassment is quite common in Police custody. Most activists become active when they are paid to talk and are selective in their interference.
