Mangaluru: Three fishing ports of coastal region to be modernised

Mangaluru, Dec 7: The fishing ports of Malpe, Gangolli and Mangaluru will be developed at a cost of Rs 72.20 crore on 60/40 sharing of cost between union government and state government under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampad Yojana.

An order to this effect is going to be taken out in the next 10 days. Basic infrastructure will be developed in all the three ports.

The first jetty of Mangaluru fishing port was built in 1991 at a cost of Rs 99.50 lac. The second phase jetty was built in 2009-10 at a cost of Rs 144 lac. The third phase of jetty construction was planned in 2011. However, it is still not implemented. Several lacunas in the first and second jetty like drinking water, water tank, rebuilding of auction building, multilevel fish box storage, fish and ice handling system, fisheries building, well equipped washrooms and drainage system and development of port entrance will be taken up in the third phase.

The biggest fishing port of coastal Karnataka Malpe was built in 1985-86 at a cost of Rs 5.46 crore. Second phase jetty was built in 1996. Rs 49.90 crore is spent on third phase jetty construction. Improvement of underground drainage and ETP of 600 KLD is being built. Security room, drinking water facility, overhead tank and RO plant will be built near the entrance arch.

Gangolli fishing port is an old port. In 2006, developmental works at a cost of Rs 8.32 crore were undertaken. As this is a main fishing port, two auction yards will be built here. Well-equipped washroom, improvement of underground drainage system and ETP will be built. Compound wall, overhead tank and entrance arch will also be constructed.

    The Amount alloted is too meagre .. There should be more emphasis on hygiene aspects. BTW what happened to the Kulai fishing harbor?

    only development is the mantra of Congress party led by honest shrewd and lion for the corrupt....Lord Sidda renaming of circle, love jihad, hedi savarkar isssue, hijab, jatka halal, beef, love jihad....kidar gaye sab chindi chor nagpur gulams?
