Lucknow, Sep 5 (IANS) Accusing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati of institutionalising corruption, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi Monday said a WikiLeaks cable "exposes the corrupt face and dual standards" of her regime.
Naqvi said: "According to the disclosure, at the behest of the chief minister, a chartered plane flew to Mumbai from Lucknow just to get a pair of preferred sandals for her (Mayawati).
"Around Rs.10 lakh was spent for bringing the sandals that cost about Rs.1,000," he said.
"The cable has again exposed the corrupt face of Mayawati and her government. It's shocking and surprising... It shows the way public funds are misused," Naqvi said at a press conference here.
Naqvi also accused Mayawati of political opprtunism after another Wikileaks documents said that her opposition to the 2008 India-US nuclear deal was just rhetoric.
"That cable reflects dishonest behaviour...," he added.
